This tool was developed by us for use in our manufacturing shop for both production and prototype requirements. After three years of use we decided to offer it to the public as a product. Customers have found it useful for cutting steel, aluminum or plastic stock for blanks to be used in a lathe for secondary operations. The mitre box produces a nominal cut within 0.004 inches per inch of diameter. We used the mitre box to fabricate a custom sports car frame by putting 12 foot lengths of tubing on a pair of saw horses and simply using the clamp on the mitre box to align the tool to the tubing. The mitre box has a hardwood base which allows it to be clamped to a shop vise or to a bench. The tool base is 1/2 inch thick aluminum fitted with 1/2 inch diameter hardened steel dowels which guide the saw blade. An additional dowel pin is provided for a back stop for making both 45 and 90 degree cuts in two positions on the mitre box. Other cuts can be made marking the stock with the angle required and aligning the hacksaw blade before clamping the work in place. The capacity of the mitre box is 2 inches by 3 1/2 inches at 90 degrees and 2 inches by 1 1/2 inches at 45 degrees. We recommend 1 32 tooth hacksaw blade for maximum quality.
